The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has issued another opening for Chinook Salmon fishing on the Lower Fraser River. The issued license is valid for two days- Friday, September 3 at 6 pm - Sunday, September 5 at 6:00 pm.

In order to minimize and avoid Sockeye impacts and to increase the survivals of incidental bi-catch and reduce accidental mortality, a minimum 8” mesh or greater restriction is required with 3:1 hang ratio. During all fishing activity, each Set Net shall be attended at all times and picked regularly, to remove all viable Sockeye Salmon, by the Participant who is fishing the net.

APM FSC Chinook directed fishery proposal:

• Set nets: Sept. 3 Friday 6 p.m. to Sept. 5 Sunday 6 p.m.
• Drift nets: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 4 Saturday and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 5 Sunday.

Please note: if a coded wire tag CN is encountered it would be great to consider providing the snout as noted below:

• Coded Wire Tags (CWTs) – these tags are inserted to the nose of Chinook and Coho salmon and can be detected by looking for a clipped adipose fin.  If you catch an adipose fin clipped Chinook or Coho please consider providing the snout to your monitor for sampling (the upper jaw  back to 1cm behind the eye). Another key piece of information is letting monitors know how many clipped fish and unclipped fish are part of your catch each fishery even if you are unable to provide the snout for sampling).
